Melting Pot

Springfield, Virginia: How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.

I attended my best friend Monique's sister's wedding reception at the Waterford of Springfield last weekend. Their family is from Bangladesh, and there were literally 500+ guests at her wedding reception. Pretty darn sure I met the entire Bengali community of Northern Virginia there. I got to dress up in a flowing sari to blend in with everyone else.

Next door was a Korean wedding, where the men and women wore their elegant, traditional han-bok garments.

Now, it gets even better. In the last ballroom was a quintessential all-American Marine wedding. (Thank you, Monique Patwary, for keeping my life interesting). Talk about a blend of cultures! Best part is, I don't think anybody thought twice about it. Such is the simple life in Northern Virginia.

I love Springfield forever.
